Inevitably I suppose, you begin to wonder about the construction of the construct that we are supposed to embody. WHAT ARE THE FORCES THAT SHAPE US?
During this last year within the context of lockdown, where everyone is re-negotiating personal and social boundaries, these paintings took me back to the first fictional role models a '70s girl could look to; Uhura, Leia, Ripley. I made the paintings as a focus for mediating the conversation I was trying to have with myself -the astronauts seem to be silent on the matter, observing, critical, carapaced.
